Vipin Rai

Vipin Rai, On Location Sound & Camera Assistant

In India, handling on-location sound for a non-fiction is a challenge not many would take easily to. Just when you are about to record an intimate interview about the protagonist’s spiritual journey. The ecstasy, the agony. Moksha. Maya. And all. Lo! The safaiwala, sweeper bhaiyya comes with his old broom. Khissshh Khissshh Khisshhh.

The thing is, the protagonist is deep in his story. He can’t hear it. But the sound recordist can. Vipin’s face starts contorting. He wants to reach out to me, and tell me to stop. But he waits. For that right moment. The pause. Between emotions that the protagonist is passing through. To catch the pause. Its an art.
